Your photo and the preview

What photo works best?
One clear photo of their face, taken front on at your pet's eye level rather than from standing height, with both ears fully inside the frame. Daylight rather than flash, and light coming from the side does more than flat front-on light, especially on a dark coat where the features can otherwise disappear into the fur. The face should fill a good part of the frame, with both eyes open and visible. It does not need to be a posed or professional photo.

Can I try more than one style or photo before I decide?
Yes, up to 5 free tries before you buy anything.

How are the portraits made?
Your photo is turned into artwork by an image model. You see the result on the page before you order, and every order is checked before it goes to print. Nobody paints or draws it by hand, and we will not pretend otherwise. The care goes into the likeness: markings, ear shape and face, which you compare with your own photo before you order.

What happens if the preview doesn't generate?
Try again. If it still doesn't work, contact us and we'll sort it out.

Is my photo stored securely, and for how long?
If you order, we keep your photo and the finished artwork for 90 days after delivery, so we can reprint if anything arrives damaged. After that both are deleted. If you generate a portrait and don't order, your photo is deleted after 7 days. You can ask us to delete your photo sooner at any time.

What photo works best for a dog?
Get down to their eye level, in daylight, with both ears visible and the face filling a good part of the frame. Avoid shots taken from above, which flatten the muzzle, and avoid flash, which changes the coat colour. A photo where you can clearly see where the markings change across the face is worth more than a technically sharp one taken from too far away.

Will the style keep my dog's markings?
Some styles hold detail better than others. Classical oil and charcoal keep the markings largely intact. Pop art and bold block simplify them by design, which suits a dog with big clear patches and works less well on one with fine detail across the face. Generate it and see. If the markings have gone soft, try a different style before you buy.

My dog is black. Will the face still read?
Dark coats lose detail easily, so the light matters more than usual. Take the photo front on at their eye level, but let the light come from the side, from a window rather than a flash. Side light separates the muzzle and eyes from the rest of the head, where flat front-on light can let the whole face disappear into the fur. You will see how it turned out before paying, so if the face has gone flat, regenerate it or try a photo with more light on one side.

Orders and delivery

When am I charged?
At checkout, after you've seen your portrait and chosen the version you want. Generating and regenerating is free, and nothing is charged while you're deciding.

How long do production and delivery take?
Most orders are produced and delivered within 5-6 working days. Larger sizes and some destinations take longer.

Do you ship to my country?
We ship free to 33 countries: the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, most of Western Europe, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Israel and the Gulf states. The full list is in our shipping policy.

What happens if my frame or print arrives damaged?
Contact us within 30 days of delivery and we'll arrange a free reprint or a refund. Send photos of the damaged piece and the packaging it arrived in, including the outside of the box, before you throw anything away. That's what we need to process it quickly.

About Custom Dog Portraits

A dog's face is mostly in the ears and the eyes. The set of them, the way one sits slightly lower than the other, the exact place the coat changes color across the muzzle. That is what has to be right, and it is the first thing to look at when your portrait appears.

Upload a photo and choose a style. Ten of them, from oil-painting texture through to a single continuous line, each doing something different with the same face. A heavy-coated dog reads differently in charcoal than in watercolor. A dog whose markings are the whole story needs a style that keeps them.

Printed to order on cotton canvas or as a framed fine-art poster, in black, dark wood or natural wood, three sizes from 30 x 40 cm up to 60 x 80 cm.
